This early twentieth century pastoral painting of a herd of sheep huddled inside a barn is one of the best folk art paintings we have seen in a long time. How many sheep paintings have you seen where the animals are indoors as opposed to in the barnyard or in a landscape? Dimensions are 22 x 36 inches, sight size, and 25 x 29 inches in its old gilt frame. This painting has tremendous charm and realism.

This appealing oil on canvas Alpine (European) genre painting is likely Swiss, Bavarian or Italian and depicts a lumberyard by a railroad track. The men in the shack look quite businesslike in their dress and demeanor. The painting is signed and dated Fil. (Fic.) Jos. Kern 1928. Canvas size is 23-3/4 x 31-1/4 inches; framed, the painting is 27-3/4 x 35-1/8 inches. It is a little quirky in its portrayal of a slice of life from that time period.
