| This phenomenal 6-piece sterling silver tea set and matching tray was made by one of America's premier silver concerns, Dominick & Haff. The firm of Dominick & Haff was known for its manufacture of quality Sterling silver holloware and flatware from 1872 to 1928, when it was purchased by Reed & Barton. It traced its origins to William Gale and his successor firms. Henry Blanchard Dominick and Leroy B. Haff, who had been bookkeeper for the Gale retail department from 1867 to closing in 1869, were the founding partners. In 1880, Dominick & Haff purchased the flatware dies of Adams & Shaw, which included those of John R. Wendt & Co. and its successors. Dominick & Haff supplied major retailers such as Tiffany & Co., which included the firm’s trademark and often included the date of manufacture, a practice originated by New York silver manufacturer William Gale and continued by his successors. This heavy tea service in the Basket of Flowers pattern, embellished with Old English hand chased detailing, is comprised of a kettle/hot water poyt and stand, a tea pot, a coffee pot, covered sugar bowl, a creamer, a waste bowl, and a matching tray. Total weight of the entire set is 308.65 troy ounces. This pattern was made up into 1920. Dimensions follow: Tea pot: 10 in. h at finial, 30.67 troy oz. Coffee pot: 10.75 in. at finial, 29.71 troy oz. Kettle/hot water pot: 11.5 in. high, 60.45 troy oz. Sugar bowl: 8 in. h, 16.84 troy oz. Creamer: 6.26 in. high, 11.31 troy oz. Waste bowl: 5-3/4 in. high, 8.87 troy oz. Tray (GWB monogram): 19 in. wide x 24.75 in. long (29.5 in. handle to handle), 150.80 troy oz.
