| This exceptional circa 1920s English fox hunting scene watercolor entitled "Full Cry" is signed lower left by the artist H. Murray and has been archivally framed in a black glass mat. H. Murray is a pseudonym for the Birmingham, England illustrator Horace Hammond, who flourished in England around 1920. Hammond also worked under the pseudonyms of J. Barclay and A.D. Bell. Hammond worked in the style of Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899). Foster's landscapes and watercolors were typical of the Victorian age in which he and Hammond worked. Birket Foster was elected as a member of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1862 and went on to show around 400 of his works at the Society's exhibitions. Although well known for his Surrey paintings, particularly from the Godalming area, Birket Foster also traveled widely, and painted the countryside along the Rhine, the Swiss lakes and in Italy, especially Venice. With their precise style, Murray’s watercolors have become increasingly popular and this one is no exception with its crisp clear colors and excellent draftsmanship. Murray’s work has been illustrated in the Jeremy Wood book, "Hidden Talents, Artists Working 1880-1950".
