Dow Pugh (1906-1994) An Appalachian artist. Dow had a dry sense of humor, and he used that wood, just whittled it to make something. He thought it turned out pretty good, and that was his first carving. That would have been in the early sixties. Pugh fashioned birds, fish and snakes, Indian heads, and tomahawks, as well as busts of mountain people and political cartoons from buckeye, pine and hickory.
