That would have been in the early sixties. Pugh fashioned birds, fish and snakes, Indian heads, and tomahawks, as well as busts of mountain people and political cartoons from buckeye, pine and hickory. He also painted pictures on canvas and walls and painted heads on gourds, and decorated outbui ...click for details

Lewis's style is blocky. Lewis carves a broad variety of subjects- single figures to figural tableaux that illustrate complex narratives, like that portrayed in this piece. While Lewis frequently returns to a subject, his work is never repetitive- he creates inexhaustible variations on his themes. "While artistically mining old time religion, Tim chose what to leave in and what to take out of the stories he tells" - Dan Prince. Carved in 2010. This is a special piece one of the first pieces Sulton Rogers carved. This is not typical of his later work at all. This is a stunning carving with so much detail. The wood has been carved and lacquer, the sheen and wood grain reflect real detail in the horse and its coat. The luster just adds to the brilliance of this carving. Featured in Outsider Art - Kathy Moses pg 102 Carved in Pine by Sulton Rogers 1982 Dimensions- 17" x 27" x 8" Referenced in:- 20th Century American Folk, S ...click for details
